Clavicytherium by John Rooks Sold
This delightful clavicytherium is closely based on what is believed to be the oldest stringed keyboard in the world, the anonymous c. 1480 South German (?) instrument in the collection of the Royal College of Music .
The beautifully built copy by John Rooks features an altered keyboard to enable music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries to be played. As well as being a charming instrument with an historical antecedent, it has the advantage of a small footprint for anyone with restricted space, and at just 1424 mm high (4’ 8”) it does not require a high ceiling!
One replacement string is needed.
The finely-made authentic soudboard inserts are made from multiple layers of paper.
