Spinet by Paul Neville 1987           after Thomas Barton 1724

The Spinet in the picture above was made by Thomas Barton in 1724; it was restored by Paul Neville in 1984, when it was on loan to the National Trust at Blickling Hall, Norfolk, and he took advantage of the opportunity to make an accurate replica (below).  The original was sold at Dreweatt's auction in December 2022 with a hammer price of £8,ooo; its present whereabouts are unknown.

These images are evidence of very fine workmanship.

The sharps have been carefully examined, and the small black specks (pores) are evidence they are made from bone.

This beautiful spinet remains in essentially good playing order, although the usual routine egulation and adjustments may be necessary.

The spinet is in Weedon, Northamptonshire; the price is £2,250.
