Tomkison c. 1815

'Manufacturer to the Prince Regent' Many makers claimed Royal appointment - there was no formal procedure until Queen Victoria established the Royal Warrant sytem in 1840 to end the free-for-all - but Thomas Tomkison really did make pianos for George, as Prince of Wales, Prince Regent, and eventually King George IV.  The most famous example is the splendid 1821 grand, now restored to the Royal Pavilion, Brighton.
