I have great respect for John Storrs' kits. He employed techniques, very advanced for the time, to ensure that the hundreds of little holes were in the right place - this would now be called CNC machining. The technique also allowed special key-pieces to be inserted to secure the case joints. These factors gave careful amateurs the best possible chance of achieving a good result; this is a fine example of the Ruckers inspired model, made from a kit in 1984.
The natural keys are ebony with bone-topped sharps, compass GG - e3. Cream paintwork with smoky blue borders and a green line. Water-gilt mouldings and rings on the stand. Decorated with authentic pattern papers.
Two 8' registers and one 4', buff to one 8'.
Wooden jacks (four spares), two spare arcades for key-fronts. There is the rather common hairline crack in the treble area of the soundboard - mine is the same - but it has no effect on the sound.
This fine harpsichord is in full playing order, but it does need some routine regulation. It is in the London area; the price is a very reasonable £4,000.
