Spinet by Stephen Robinson 2009

This spinet is based on the c. 1728 Thomas Hitchcock spinet in the Russell Collection of Early Keyboard instruments in Edinburgh.  Stephen Robinson is still an active maker, based in Rugby, England, and specialises in making copies of this Hitchcock.

A transposing function has been included, enabling the player to switch between A=440 and A=415.

The case exterior is veneered in walnut; the interior is beautiful figured satinwood. The keytops for the naturals are made of cow bone, with the 'skunktail' sharps characteristic of Thomas Hitchcock's work.

The decorative hinges are authentic copies of the beautiful chased brasswork on the original spinet.

Dimensions: Length 71"(180 cm), Width 27" (68 cm), Height of legs 26" (66 cm).  Height of case is 7½" (19 cm) with lid shut.

This is an instrument in good condition, with attractive features including turned legs and decorative brass hinges.

It will be supplied with a tuning hammer, some spare strings, and Stephen's kit for cutting plectra and doing basic maintenance.
