Harpsichord after Ruckers 1640               by Michael Johnson 1985

For Sale - Fine Michael Johnson single manuial harpsichord based on the Yale 1640 Ruckers.  

The casework has 23 ct gold leaf bands, mottoes, arabesques, and Flemish papers to the inside lid and case.

The turned stand is made of English oak, with matching music desk and lid prop.

The wooden jacks are original and in good condition.  The original ivory naturals have been replaced with bovine bone; the sharps are made of bog oak in the traditional style.

Disposition 2 x 8' + 4'.  The compass is BB-d3; the lowest note may be tuned to GG to allow short octave tuning.  It is transposable for A 415/440.  

The soundboard, beautifully decorated by Kyle Turner immortalises a stunning African Grey parrot - a family member at the time.

Length 2oo cm, width 82 cm.  A padded cover and wooden travel boxes made specifically for the instrument are available.  

 

This fine harpsichord is in full playing order and very good overall condition.  It is located in Rome, where it may be viewed by appointment.  The price is €18,000.
