Harpsichord by Trevor Beckerleg 1973

This beautiful harpsichord is 6'5" long, and 3' wide (195 x 91 cm).  The compass is a very practical  GG - f3, 2 x 8', with buff stop and lute/nazard. The thin case is made of a dark-grained hardwood, possibly fruitwood or walnut.  The thinness of the case and lack of  a fixed lid might suggest that it is inspired by an Italian instrument, intended to live in an outer case.  However, it is strung in brass and iron, and the grain of the soundboard runs at an angle away from the spine, instead of vaguely parallel to it.

The keys have ebony sharps and polished bone naturals with arcaded fronts.

This instrument is located in the Lewes, East Sussex, workshop of the late Malcolm Rose, who did the bulk of the restoration work.

The price is £6,500; near offer consdered.  Proceeds from the sale will go towards the Malcolm Rose Memorial concerts fund.
