The immaculate calligraphy on the blonde sycamore nameboard of this piano bears the name 'Webley', but the clearly it was made by the Royal maker Thomas Tomkison. The serial number 1305 dates it to 1803 more or less exactly. It is listed in Clinkscale Online with the reference as 8968.
Conventional single action with lever dampers; damper-lift controlled by the pedal.
It has been carefully restored comparatively recently and has been maintained in good order.
It comes with a bespoke tuning-hammer.
Most square pianos with original soundboards show small shrinkagge cracks, but these have no discernible effect on the tone.
The elegant mahogany case has aged gracefully.
This piano is in current use; it is enjoyable to play and has a pleasing tone throughout the register. The owner is reluctant to sell, but is moving to a smaller home.
It is in Harpole, Northamptonshire, very close to junction 16 of the M1.
In compliance with theUK Ivory Act 2018 it has been registered for exemption Code B8CWJB6W. The price is a very fair £400.
