The immaculate calligraphy on the blonde sycamore nameboard of this piano bears the name 'Webley', but the clearly it was made by the Royal maker Thomas Tomkison. The serial number 1305 dates it to 1803 more or less exactly. It is listed in Clinkscale Online with the reference as 8968.
Conventional single action with lever dampers; damper-lift controlled by the pedal.
It has been carefully restored comparatively recently and has been maintained in good order.
It comes with a bespoke tuning-hammer.
Most square pianos with original soundboards show small shrinkagge cracks, but these have no discernible effect on the tone.
The elegant mahogany case has aged gracefully.
