George Garcka c. 1785

George Garcka built pianos in Stephen Street, Rathbone Place from 1783 to 1792 before moving to the famous address on the 'Corner of Edward Street and Wardour Street'.

The estimated date is based on the style of the beautifully inlaid nameboard and calligraphy, identical to contemporary pianos by Christopher Ganer, which are dated.

There are two handstops, for damper-lift and buff.

We see that the piano is in very good restored condition, with good original hammers.

The new strings have the correct pattern of open covered > brass > steel, the soundboard appears to be original, and  the bridge secure.

One of the casters is detached, but not lost.

We are fortunate in having a video clip of  this one,  demonstrating that all the notes play properly.
