As an instrument having ivory sharp-tops, and bearing a date after 31 December 1974, the sale of this one would have been illegal as it stood - they were therefore removed. Replacement with a substitute such as Elforyn or casein is a simple job. This does mean that there are no problems with export of CITES, and possibly encouraged by this, it sold for just above the upper estimate for £1,600.
The estimate for this one was £1,000 - £1,500.
