Dolmetsch 'Small Spinet' c. 1950s

This model is described in the contemporary catalogue as a 'Small Spinet' with a compass of 4½-octaves, no C#.  It is built at standard 8' pitch, with overspun bass strings.

It is not datged, but the serial number is 709, which we believe indicates the early 1950s.

The jacks are of the closed-top type.  There is a buff stop operated by the lever on the keyframe, and the effect is achieved by buttons, one for each pair of strings, pushing up from underneath .

Attention is needed to the bridge, which although intact has come loose.  It slides freely, indicating that it was glued only, not screwed from beneath.  Therefore a repair from above should be possible, without removing the soundboard.

There is a detachable music-stand, which needs re-gluing.

It comes with a tuning-hammer.
