In the early years of the twentieth century, Arnold Dolmetsch was a pioneer in making the harpsichord more widely known, and to this end he developed instruments that could be carried around in a London taxi. This interest in compact instruments influenced the products of the Haslemere workshop until near the end of the century. This example was made in 1970/71. The compass is 4½ octaves C- f3, normal pitch.
It has adjustable plastic jacks running in a metal register. We also see the hand-lever for the buff stop. It was checked out by Morley's two years ago, and has been maintained in tune and in full playing order at A = 415, 8' pitch.
The original Dolmetsch leaflet (see PDF below) states that the keys are boxwood, with ebony sharps.
Further details, dimensions etc., are contained in the PDF. It is in the Surrey area, and is now offered for sale at £2,500.
