Description by David Wright:
Viennese Fortepiano after J A Stein by
Johannes Secker.
This piano was built in 1997 by John Secker in Whitby (UK). It is based on an
original by Stein, an instrument maker who Mozart would have known, so it’s ideal for that period and repertoire. It has the full Mozart compass of FF-f’’’ and is bichord strung through. The
case is in beautiful flame mahogany with fielded panels in the lid and attractive brass hinges.
It has a beautiful silvery tone and light action typical of Stein pianos. I have used
this piano for several professional concerts over the past couple of years with the Hanover Band but selling now to raise money to fill the hole left by a huge tax bill and vehicle replacement, plus
I’ve been loaned an almost identical instrument so it’s time to say goodbye to this one.
