J Green c. 1825  - Free to Good Home

About four pianos by J (John?) Green are recorded, but we know nothing of him as a maker; this often happens when the name is that of a dealer, rather than a primary maker.  This one is a conventional six-octave piano from about 1825.  It would be an ideal project for an amateur restorer; as far as I can see there are no serious structural issues, and it's good to see that the pedal is present.

It is well due a visit to the dentist!  It would be tempting to make new keytops from a quality substitute such as Elforyn, and the piano would then be free from ivory restrictions for ever!

A complete new set of strings would be best.  Unfortunately half of the bass wrestpins have been lost, and replacements would have to found or made.  We should also mention that the hammers have been 'capped'  with an additional layer of material, and work is required to correct this.

The condition of the all-important soundboard and bridge appears to be good.

This piano is being offered Free to Good Home; it is located i the beautiful countryside between Worcester and Droitwich Spa.
