Goulding & D'Almaine c. 1834

This handsome six-octave piano has been partly-restored, and is now offered Free to Good Home to a new owner willing to complete the project.  It's good to see that the pedal is present.

The firm of Goulding etc. went through several changes of partner in the early nineteenth century; this inscription 'Goulding & D'Almaine' with the Soho Square address indicates the years 1823 - 1834, and the style of the piano with the iron string-plate and single overspun bass strings directs us to the end of this period.

This picture, taken before the restoration project started, suggests that the soundboard and bridge are in good condition, and the wrestpins and dampers are all present.

This piano has a separate bass bridge to give a longer scale to the steel strings, and thus a more even relative tension throughout the compass.

The image above shows the restoration under way, using authentic materials.

The piano is in North Devon.  As it is offered as an unconditional gift, registration under the UK Ivory Act is not required.

The owner now needs a more modern piano for musical needs.  Please contact Alison Davies  alicrane.27@icloud.com
