A small collection of square pianos is offered for sale in Switzerland; the instruments are being sold from an inheritance. The vendor is not a specialist but is willing to help as best as possible. All the instruments are in need of a restoration. The instruments will be sold all together.
Square piano by Louis Kulmbach, Heilbronn in Germany. The instrument builder is known for the white painted inner cases. It was not possible to photograph the inside, but the seller assures us that from what can be seen from the front flap it looks clean and tidy. The legs are available, but the expected lyre is missing.
Square piano by Thomas Tomkison No 6148 ca. 1815-1820. The seller says that this piano has been restored, but again it was not possible to lift the lid . The six legs are present, but not the pedal.
Square piano by John Broadwood & Sons No 46284 ca. 1834. The seller says that this one is complete and does play, albeit with a rather sticky action. Careful cleaning and adjustment should make a big difference.
Square piano William Stodart & Son No 7702; ca. 1815-1820. Legs and the pedal are present, although the pedal dates from a previous restoration and is not original. It does need new strings, cleaning, and adjustment.
The price for all four together is CHF 1.000 - near offers considered.
The instruments have to be collected from the Luzern area.
