Georg Astor was born in Waldorf, near Heidelberg, in 1752, and in 177o came to live with an uncle who reputedly worked for Shudi & Broadwood. As a maker, he was at 79 Cornhill from 1796, and this piano was made between then and about 1800.
A neat and very attractive nameboard and excellent ivories.
Handstops for damper-lift and buff.
The estimate for this one is £250 - £450; hammer price just below this at £220, but marked as sold.
