Harpsichord by Andrew Wooderson 1994

The Seller writes:

Single manual French harpsichord by Andrew Wooderson 1994 (£5,750) This instrument has been my main concert harpsichord for the past 5 years. It has been used in countless concerts up and down the country and on several recordings in both a continuo and solo capacity. I have used it mostly with modern orchestras and my main group Red Priest so can hear an example of the sound on the popular BBC period drama Woolf Hall and on the latest RP disc. It has thus been voiced for maximum volume in order to compete with modern instruments, it has been perfect for performing concertos in large cathedrals where many harpsichord would not stand a chance of being heard! Another great advantage is its extraordinary stability in holding its tuning, I more often than not arrive at a concert venue and barely need to touch it! Now for some technical information and history: Pitch A = 415 & 440 transposable Compass - 5 octaves FF - c’’’ Disposition 2 x 8’ and 4’ with buff Jacks made of pearwood with holly tongues and Delrin plecta Measurements 90” long, 37” wide at keyboard end and 36” tall Strung in Malcolm Rose yellow brass in the bass and iron in the treble This instrument was originally commissioned by one of the major public schools (Wellington or Winchester I seem to remember) in 1994 and built by one of Britain’s leading harpsichord makers. It came into my possession after they upgraded to a double manual around 5-6 years ago and has since undergone some cosmetic modification including the case decoration and barley-twist stand. It comes with a music desk and canvas travelling cover which is a little worn but still useable. It is in excellent condition, structurally sound with no cracks or warps to the soundboard or baseboard, extremely reliable and has been a joy to work with over the years, but sadly lockdown has obliterated most musicians’ diaries for the foreseeable future and possible on a permanent level, I am therefore selling all of my instruments in order to survive the bumpy road ahead, so please see my other items. Viewing and collection welcome in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire or I’m happy to deliver, set up and tune within mainland UK, please message me for a quote or any further information. Cash on collection or direct transfer preferred.

The price of this beautiful and practical instrument is £5,750.
