We don't seem to know very much about the Suffolk maker Alec Hodsdon (1900 - 1986) but he was an important figure in the revival of early keyboard instruments just before and after the Second World War. He made clavichords, spinets, and virginals. This good example, in playing order, is now offered for sale.
The seller writes:
Virginals by Alec Hodsdon 1952 - converted from leather to Delrin about 35 years ago; solid walnut case; cracks in soundboard and lid repaired recently; in playing order but really needs re-voicing - informal professional estimate for £200, if required. Located in Southern England. £850 - compare EMS kit price for similar at nearly £5000. Peter Berg 01227 450 426 or firstname.lastname@example.org
