Rolfe c. 1820

This piano is number 6976, but we do not yet have sufficient data to reconstruct a database of Rolfe pianos.

This is a very fine piano, with right- and left-handed spirally turned legs, and charming twin music desks, a speciality of this maker.

It was carefully-restored about 15 years ago by Martin Robertson for the piano consultant at the Royal College of music.  It has been well looked-after, and remains in good playing order.  A sound-clip will be added as soon as possible.

In the same way as Broadwoods around this date, the tuning-pins for the top notes have been moved back to the right-hand side; this avoids crowding at the top end of the wrestplank.

The original factory label and assertion of quality is still plainly legible.

An adjustable stool is included in the price.

It is relatively unusual for a piano to be offered for sale which is ready-to-play without further expense: in this  sound-clip the piano is perhaps not quite in tune, but it is evident that  it plays and sounds well.
