Pierre Garnier 1792

We know very little about Pierre Garnier, alth0ugh another piano is recorded in Clinkscale.  This one adds to our knowledge, because the nameboard tells us that it was made in Bordeaux in 1792.

However, this is a fine piano, with unusual and attractive sharp keys as a detail.

The seller writes:

Outstanding French Square Piano

Early French Square Piano made by Pierre Garnier, Bordeaux, in 1792.

Completely restored in 2013.

The instrument seemed to have never been played much – the keyboard and original hammer leathers are in an excellent condition. The instrument possesses remarkable minor keys – it seems to be the only instrument known with such keys.

Marvellous mahogany case.

Single Action, the compass is the standard 61 note, five octaves; FF to f3.

Two knee levers.
